Text Without Context Is Pretext

“Text without context is pretext. ‘He withdraws knowledge by withdrawing the ulema.'”

Shaykh Abdal-Hakim Murad

Commentary: Pretext: noun, a reason given in justification of a course of action that is not the real reason. When the true scholars are gone, there is no one left to stop people from using the texts to justify anything they want.
